to the York Hiking Club Newsletter, a complete monthly listing of hikes,
work trips, special events and announcements.
All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.
A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike. This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

Sunday, August 31 – Labor Day picnic at the JPJ cabin! Please call Sarah to help make the food selections a variety and not just all desserts. Sarah will lead a short hike. Those who want to do a longer hike, go for it! By the way, some of us just like to do porch sitting before and after lunch.

September 7- Short Hike: Trail 5 Lake Redman (5 miles)
From the Sparton Road parking lot, we will walk on the road for a short distance
to connect with trail #5 and enjoy a walk around part of Lake Redman, passing
through the bird sanctuary toward the end of the hike. This hike has few short,
mild climbs along the way. Come out and join us for a stroll through a very
pretty area of York County. If the construction on the Log Road Bridge is
finished, we'll be able to complete the loop; if it's not, we'll turn back at
the road or the construction site, depending on how long it takes to get there.
If it is raining, please call ahead to confirm we are still on.

September 14 – Medium Hike (5-6 miles) Ferncliff Wildlife
This hike is exploring Ferncliff Wildlife and Wildflower Preserve plus Trout Run
Nature Preserve in beautiful southern Lancaster County! These are 2 short hikes
approximately 2 then 3+ miles in nearby Preserves seeing flowers, streams, small
waterfalls, birds and any wildlife. At Ferncliff there is an out to railroad
tracks and back trail along an easy, though at places small rocky areas with a
mild incline. Trout Run is a loop trail with short out and back to Enola Low
grade rail trail, as it winds along Trout Run stream. Wear good hiking shoes,
bring lots of water, snacks and lunch if desired.

September 21 – Short Hike (4 Miles)
This is a hike on the Conewago Day Use Area at Gifford Pinchot State Park. We
will see the old abandoned toboggan run and Boulder Point. The trail is rocky
with several hills, and depending on the recent weather, it may be muddy. Dress
for the weather. Bring hiking boots or trail shoes, water, and snacks.

September 28 –short hike: Nixon Park (3.5-4 miles)
Well, I may stretch it to 4 depending on how the old man is feeling. As usual
this hike will be at break neck speed, at least 1.5 m.p.h. Some hills naturally,
but nothing you young whippersnappers can’t handle. Appropriate footgear is
advisable as well as water.
