All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.

 

A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 - LABOR DAY PICNIC AT THE JPJ CABIN! Please call Sarah to help make the food selection a variety and not just all desserts. Sarah will lead a short hike. Those who want to do a longer hike, go for it! By the way, some of us just like to do porch sitting before and after lunch. Cabin Address: JPJ Cabin, 1145 Furnace Rd., Airville, PA Cabin Fee: $1.00 members; $2 non-members. Hike Time: 10:00 AM Lunch 1:30PM Organizer: Sarah Tateosian, 717-741-2651

 

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 – SHORT HIKE (3 MILES): From the Sparton Road parking lot, we will walk on the road for a short distance to connect with trail #5 and enjoy a walk around part of Lake Redman, passing through the bird sanctuary toward the end of the hike. This hike has a few short, mild climbs along the way. Come out and join us for a stroll through a very pretty area of York County. If it is raining, please call ahead to confirm we are still on. 

 

Meeting Location: Lake Redman Parking, Sparton Road off Hess Farm Road

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 – LONG HIKE This hike is exploring the next part of section 4 of Appalachian Trail. Will start at Eckville parking lot to Rt 309. Along this hike we will see Eckville shelter, Dan' s Pulpit and spring, Balanced Rocks, Tri-County Corner, Allentown shelter where we can stop for lunch, pass blue and yellow springs, then to car. Those interested could hike a couple more miles to see ' Knife Edge' or we can explore Hawk Mt near Eckville. Bring lunch, snacks, plenty of water. Wear sturdy hiking shoes can bring bug spray or whatever makes you comfortable. Please let the hiker leader know in advance if attending, to arrange a shuttle. 

 

Meeting Location: Emigsville park/ride North End meeting place Exit 24 route 83 Park and ride Lot N/E Corner Time: 7am (shuttle).

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 – MODERATE TO LONG HIKE 8.3-mile loop hike in Michaux State Forest starting at Pine Grove Furnace, going south to Tom’s Run Shelter, then returning on the Sunset Rocks Trail. About half the hike will be on the Appalachian Trail and will include a mountaintop view, a section of two-handed rock scrambling, some short climbs and sections along mountain streams. Meet me at Woodbury Rd at 8:30 AM or at Pine Grove Furnace parking lot near the furnace stacks at 9:30. The hike fee is $5. Bring lunch, suitable footwear and drinking water.

Help wanted: JPJ does not maintain itself, we need help in keeping the grounds neat and the inside clean. Please volunteer to help us.

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
