A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 - LABOR DAY HIKE AND PICNIC: We will meet at the JPJ for a celebration of the holiday. We will meet at 10 AM for a 6 mile hike and followed by a picnic lunch. Bring your own food for a picnic since we will not plan to share food. We will meet at 10:00 AM for a hike with length and location to be determined. Call or email the hike leader if you’re planning to attend as well as what you plan to bring to the picnic.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 – KTA TRAIL CHALLENGE: Keystone Trail Association (KTA) KTA is requesting volunteers. This year the race is all on the Lancaster side of the Susquehanna. To volunteer, copy or click on the link Volunteer at the KTA Trail Challenge (kta-hike.org) and complete the form. In the block "People you want to volunteer with", you can list the York Hiking Club and KTA will try to group us together. KTA requires all volunteers to register.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2021 - AT TRAIL MAINTENANCE: I am hoping I will be able to lead a trail maintenance party up on the AT. We will meet at the Emigsville exit parking lot on I83 at 8:00 AM. (Exit 24). If you would rather go in your own car, meet me at the AT parking lot on RTE 225 at around 9:00. We will be doing lopper work, chainsaw work, weed trimming, and other items requiring repair. I would like two chain sawyers if possible. I have one saw and hopefully someone from the club would have one. I can bring three weed trimmers and if others have their own please bring them. I will supply the oil and gas as needed. If you are coming or planning to come please let me know as soon as possible so I can plan accordingly. I may be limited to the amount work I can do, but hopefully I will be there. Bring lunch, water, long pants, long sleeve shirts, gloves, and anything else you think necessary. I will provide safety glasses as needed, but bring your own if you have them I also have three sets of hearing protection. Contact Tom at , 717-825-6712 (cell) or 717-764-6822 (home). SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 - SHORT HIKE (5 MILES): We will do a loop around Rocky Ridge. We will try not to hike down to the bottom so there will not be any big climbs. Trail running shoes or hiking boots recommended. Bring water and snacks.

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
