SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6 – SHORT HIKE (5 MILES): A 5-mile hike starting on the Oak Trail to the Old Farm Trail doing a loop back to the Alpine Trail where we can go up to the boulders and return on the Lakeside Trail. There will be options to shorten or lengthen the hike as desired. 
Meeting Locations: Meet at the Conewago Day Use area parking. Time: 1 PM at Day Use Area
(Options to meet at the Emigsville Park and Ride North End meeting place Exit 24 route 83 Park and ride Lot N/E Corner, contact the hike leader. Meet time would be 12:30 pm. at the Park and Ride.)

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2022- JPJ WORKDAY, 9:00 AM: Come out and help get JPJ Cabin ready for activities! Jobs are available for everyone inside and outside. Does anyone like black walnuts? We may be doing some painting inside if it is warm enough. Coffee and hot chocolate will be served with homemade something sweet! Bring a sandwich or snack and we will lunch together on the porch. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13 – SHORT HIKE (5 MILES): Hike at Spring Valley county park. Hike has a number of ups and downs and at least one stream to cross. Bring hiking boots, water, and snacks. 
Meeting Location: Main parking lot at park Time: 10:00 AM
(Directions RT. I-83 South, exit 8, go left .1 of mile to Potosi Road, go right. 2.2 miles to parking lot on left.) Hike leader: Mike berry, 717-659-4059 Carpool: Not Applicable

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19 – LONG HIKE (8 – 10 MILES): Fall hike at Harpers Ferry, WVA! Hike will take the AT into the town of Harpers Ferry starting from the parking lot off rt 340 after second bridge. We will walk the C&O canal and ascend Maryland Heights to the scenic lookouts and return. This is a strenuous hike of about 8-10 miles. Can explore the town. Optional dinner stop on way home. Bring hike boots, poles, lunch, snacks, water. There is a national park fee per vehicle, so if you have a national parks pass, please bring it along. Call/text hike leader if planning to attend.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20 2022 TURKEY HIKE - MEMBERS ONLY- ANNUAL TURKEY DINNER AND HIKE: Annual dues must be paid before the dinner. Bernie Frick will take you on a morning hike up and down the hills to help you work up an appetite. Meal served at 1:30 PM, hot cider and cookies at 1:00 PM. You must sign up in advance for the meal. We will need turkeys, pots of mashed potatoes (approx. 5 pounds each), pots of sweet potatoes (approx. 3 pounds each), stuffing, cranberries, 2 to 3 kinds of vegetables, rolls, butter, desserts, cider, and cookies. Please call with your reservations and find out what you can bring. We always need folks to set up and clean up. 

Event Location: JPJ Cabin, 1145 Furnace Rd., Airville, PA 
Hike Departure Time: 10:00 AM. 
Cookies and Hot Cider: 1:00 PM 
Meal Served: 1:30 PM

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 27 - Short Hike, Nixon Park. No this is not a repeat hike of my RAINED OUT, geezer hike of September. Hopefully there will still be some color, so come join us for an easy hike of 3-4 miles along familiar trails. Rain, Snow, or dark of night cancels. 
Meeting Location: Lower parking lot. Time: 1:30 PM

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Annual dues for the October 2022 - September 2023 time period is now due and unchanged from last year. The dues levels are:

$12 Hiker
$15 Trailblazer
$20 Pathfinder
$ 6 Initiation Fee 

There are no additional benefits associated with the various dues levels. They are for those who would like to help the Club out more by providing additional donations over and above the $12 required dues.

The Treasurer, Kathy Yost, will be available at the Thanksgiving hike and meal on November 20 to collect dues in person. If you don't plan to attend this event, please mail your dues to:

Open Board Positions – Volunteers needed for the following Club Roles:
Secretary, Activities Committee, Trails Committee and Director at Large. The club needs club members to volunteer to help manage the York Hiking Club mission to create, promote, and encourage outdoor recreation, with emphasis on hiking. Please contact Alan Noble at 717-758-8470 or by email at , if you would like to volunteer for any of the club roles.

2022 Hike Leaders Wanted: Please contact Alan Noble (717-758-8470 or ) if you would like to start leading hikes for the club. We can partner new hike leaders with experienced hike leaders.

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
