SUNDAY, MARCH 1 – SHORT HIKE (4 MILES): Stroll through Richard M. Nixon County Park. We will hike the perimeter trails which has varied terrain, some steep climbs, muddy in areas depending on the weather conditions, and some rocky hills. Bring hiking boots or trail shoes, water, and snacks. Contact the hike leader if planning on meeting at Nixon Park.

FRIDAY, MARCH 6 – COVERED DISH AND PROGRAM: Did you ever want to see or hike Mt. Katahdin? Possibly you already have and could share your experience? Come see our family trip to Maine for my father's 75th birthday present to fulfill a dream to reach the top of Mt. Katahdin. See views of Hunt Trail hike to Northern Terminus of Appalachian Trail and views of Pamola Peak on other side of Knife Edge Trail. This all started with reading a childhood book called, "Lost on a Mountain in Maine"- true story by Donn Fendler. Bonus: hear a song written by my son about his hike experience which impressed him to this day. Family members will share about this once in a lifetime trip to gorgeous Baxter Park and majestic Mt. Meeting Location: York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows: From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile. At Campbell Music, turn left onto 25 Oak Street, York PA 17402. Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right. Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.

SATURDAY, MARCH 7 - LONG HIKE (10 MILES): We’re going to climb a monadnock! Sugarloaf Mountain, in Frederick, MD, is a unique geologic feature and also featured briefly in the Civil War. But we’ll be there to hike it and there are plenty of trail loop options, including trails to summit views. Expect roots and rocks, ups and downs. Bring hiking footwear, snacks, lunch, and water. Parking is limited so carpooling is a must. If you wish to meet closer to the trail, please contact the hike leader.

SUNDAY, MARCH 8 - SHORT HIKE (4 MILES): Enjoy a hike up to Chickies Rock Overlook. Bring hiking boots or trail shoes, water, and snacks. Contact the hike leader for more information.

Meeting Location: Clayton B. Shenk trail parking area, Parking is off Klinesville Road (very first left, appears to be driveway but it is a dual-purpose road) Departure Time: 9:00 AM

SATURDAY, MARCH 14 – LONG HIKE (10 MILES): This is a shuttle hike. Starting at the Holtwood Recreation Area, we’ll hike the Conestoga Trail to Pequea Creek Campground. Trail highlights include Kelly's Run, Pinnacle Overlook, Wind Cave, and great views of the Susquehanna River. This is a difficult hike with many ups and downs, rocks and one creek crossing. Bring good hiking shoes/boots, snack, water, and lunch.

SUNDAY, MARCH 22 – SHORT HIKE (APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES): We will leave at 1pm from the Meeting Location and head to The Haines Shoe House (https://www.hainesshoehouse.com/). We can stop for a short break there as they have ice cream and snacks! This is a flat hike mostly on neighborhood streets. Please bring water (and money if you wish to purchase at the Shoe House.)

SUNDAY, MARCH 29 – SHORT HIKE (4 MILES): Heritage Rail Trail Hike from Glatfelter’s Station to the Howard Tunnel. This an out and back hike. Trail is flat on crushed travel. Bring good walking shoes or hiking boots, water, and snacks.

Hike Leaders Wanted: We are so thankful for all of our hike leaders and were fortunate to add several new hike leaders this year. We are always in need of additional new hike leaders, so please consider leading a hike or two in 2020. Please contact David Lukes at if you would like to start leading hikes for the club. Training will be provided.

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at
