SATURDAY, JUNE 8 – ATC Trail Maintenance – Mark this day on your calendar!!! We need you. We will be doing our annual trail maintenance on the Appalachian Trail on Peters Mountain. This will involve weed whacking, lopping, shelter clean up and quite possible some chain saw work. This is a chance you have to give back to the trail and learn how the trails you use stay open. You will need to wear sturdy shoes and jeans or other similar pants, long sleeve shirts recommended, and work gloves. All equipment will be supplied, but if you do have sturdy loppers and safety glasses please bring them. This is an annual event and the more we get done now the less we have to do later. Please let the hiker leader, Tom Morley, know if you are coming. This important so we know if we have enough equipment and safety gear, walk-ons will be appreciated. Chain saw work will be done by a certified sawyer but you can always help and learn what it is all about. If you have any questions contact Tom Morley at the info provided below.
Meeting Location: North End meeting place Exit 24 route 83 Park and ride Lot N/E Corner upper lot.        Departure time: 8:00 AM

This will be a 4 to 5 mile hike through one of my favorite parks in York County. The pace will be moderate so hopefully everyone will be happy. There will be hills to climb and field to traverse all in all it should be a pleasant experience. Rain cancels.

We’ll be rewarded with several views along the rugged and rocky ridge of Tussey Mountain. We’ll also pass the ruins of the Monroe Iron Furnace. Most of the elevation gain and loss will be gradual, but there will be a couple of short, steep climbs. Bring good hiking boots/shoes, change of socks, food, water, and headlamp (just in case). There will be places to refill water.
