SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5: MEDIUM HIKE (9 MILES) Pinchot State Park will be the location for this walk around the lake. The loop will be relatively flat, but likely parts will be wet/muddy/icy depending on the weather. 

Meeting Location: Parking lot off E Camping Area Rd ( 40.05925 -76.90143 ) at 10:00 or North End meeting place Exit 24 route 83 Park and ride Lot N/E Corner at 9:30 am. Hike Leader: Bernie Frick, 717-843-6675. Carpool Fee: $2

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11 : 6 or 9 mile winter hike on the North East River Trail along the Susquehanna River. We will start at Koser Park and hike to the Falmouth Trailhead. When we return to Koser Park, we have walked 6 miles and you have the option to finish the hike, or you can continue with me to the White Cliffs of Conoy which offer great views of the Susquehanna. This will add another 3 miles to the hike for a grand total of 9 miles. The trail is flat and paved. No hiking poles required.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19: CHILI HIKE/SHORT HIKE (6 miles) Kim Herbst will lead a hike starting from JPJ promptly at 10:00 AM on the well-maintained trails returning in time for a chili dinner at 1:30 p.m. Call Julie Fasetti at (717) 854-3437, or email by 9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16th to make meal reservations which once made must be paid. Meal cost $5.00 plus $1 cabin use fee for members and $2.00 for non-members. 

Event Location: JPJ Cabin, 1145 Furnace Road, Airville PA 
Hike Departure: 10:00 AM Meal Served: 1:30 PM 

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25: Medium/Long 8-10 miles Hike with the Kim's in the Catoctin Mountains! 
We will start at the Catoctin Visitor Center and hike a loop to Cunningham Falls, Hog Rock, Blue Ridge Summit, Thurmont Vista, Wolf and Chimney Rocks. This is a moderate to strenuous hike at about 2.5 miles per hour. If still feeling energetic, will hike up and down Cat Rock! Be prepared for ice/snow and dress accordingly, bring lunch/snacks/water, poles, boots. Possible meal/drink stop afterwards.

Meeting Location: Woodberry Road parking, west parking meeting spot by 7:25. Please note: we will leave promptly at 7:25 AM . Carpool Fee: $5.00
Alternate Meeting Location: Meet at TGIF parking lot off Rt 15 and 97 Time: 8:20 AM

ANNOUNCEMENTS:


Board Member and Officer Openings: 

Without a Trail Committee person, the York Hiking Club cannot meet its bylaw requirements of maintaining portions of the Appalachian Trail and the Mason-Dixon Trail. The York Hiking Club will have to relinquish its section of the Appalachian Trail. This can be discussed after the presentation this Friday at the York Township Recreational Building.

Other board positions are the Secretary (officer role), Activities Committee, and Director at Large. The club needs club members to volunteer to help manage the York Hiking Club mission to create, promote, and encourage outdoor recreation, with emphasis on hiking. Please contact Alan Noble at 717-758-8470 or by email at , if you would like to volunteer for any of the club roles.

2023 Hike Leaders Wanted: Please contact Alan Noble (717-758-8470 or ) if you would like to start leading hikes for the club. We can partner new hike leaders with experienced hike leaders.

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
