to the York Hiking Club Newsletter, a complete monthly listing of hikes,
work trips, special events and announcements.
All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.
A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike. This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

GOOD FRIDAY APRIL 3, MEDIUM HIKE (8 MILES): Moderately strenuous loop hike on Cove Mountain with great views of the Susquehanna River from Hawk Rock overlook and mountain ridge. Bring hiking boots, lunch & water.
Carpool Option: Meet at 7:50 AM to leave promptly at 8:00 AM from Emigsville North
End meeting place Exit 24 route 83 Park and ride Lot N/E Corner. Fee: $5.00
Meeting Time and Location: Meet at 8:50 AM, 24 Watershed Dr, Dunncannon at the Trail Head to Start the Hike at 9:15 AM.

SUNDAY APRIL 5 – HAPPY EASTER NO HIKE
SATURDAY, APRIL 11, LONG HIKE (9.0 MILES): MASON-DIXON TRAIL: This hike is the 7th
in a series that will have us complete the entire Mason-Dixon Trail. This
segment starts at the Zimmerman Center for Heritage and ends at Apollo
Park (Boyd Road). The trail passes through Native Land Park (including Dritt
Family Cemetery and the Susquehanna Indian Settlement Site. The last 7 miles is
a very strenuous and challenging section with rock scrambles and steep terrain.
There are beautiful views of the Susquehanna River and Cuffs Run. This hike is a
shuttle hike. We will park at Boyd Road parking area and drive to Kline Run
Park. Bring hiking poles, sturdy hiking shoes, plenty of water, snacks, and
lunch.
Carpool Option: Meet at York York
County High School of Technology (Vo-Tec) at 7:30 AM.
Meeting Time and Location: Meet at Apollo
Park (Boyd Road) at 8:00 AM. Hike to Start at 8:30 AM from THE ZIMMERMAN CENTER
(Please let us know where you are meeting us so we can get an accurate count for
the shuttle drivers. We will need multiple drivers.

SUNDAY, APRIL 19- FLOWER HIKE AND CHILI DINNER (SHORT HIKE); Each spring we hike by the Susquehanna River and count the multitude of beautiful blue bells and trout lilies, etc. on the riverbank. Quite a display awaits our eyes as usual. There will be a short hike starting at 10:30 AM counting and naming how many flowers we can find. Anyone wanting to go on a longer hike at 10:30 is welcome to do so. Our mid-winter chili hike meal had to be canceled due to the weather. So now we will have our
Flower-Chili Hike dinner prepared by Chef Bernie Frick! Please call Bernie Frick for dinner reservations by Thursday, April 16, 9:00 PM. Chili will have beef or turkey.
Meeting Location: JPJ Cabin, 1145 Furnace Road, Airville Rd.
Hike Time: 10:30 AM
Meal Time 1:30 PM Chili fee $6.00.

SATURDAY, APRIL 25, SHORT HIKE (5 MILES) Robert A. Kinsley Nature Preserve: Join us for a walk through the pretty nature preserve maintained by the Lancaster Conservancy in York County. The path starts off relatively flat and declines through the woods along a stream to River Drive where you are rewarded with a waterfront view of the Susquehanna River. There is about a 500 ft elevation gain along River Drive as we return to the starting point of the hike. Wear good shoes and pack some refreshments. Some may want to use hiking poles for the decline through the woods.
Carpool Options: Text hike leader prior to Sunday to meet at Woodberry
Road parking at 8:30 AM.
Meeting Time and Location: 8:20 AM to leave promptly at 8:30 AM. The hike will start promptly at 9:00 AM on River Drive near the intersection of River Dr. and Furnace Rd. As you're coming down Tower Rd, just as you cross Furnace Rd, you can park on the right-hand shoulder of River Dr.

SATURDAY, APRIL 25, LONG HIKE (11.3 MILES): MASON-DIXON TRAIL: This hike is the 8th in series along the
Mason-Dixon Trail. This segment starts at Boyd Road and ends at SGL 181. This is a hard hike with significant elevation changes. The area is quite beautiful and I expect the rhododendrons will be in bloom at this time. Urey Overlook is a spectacular stop along the way.We will not have to deal with a trail re-route this time of year. Bring hiking poles, sturdy hiking shoes, plenty of water, snacks, and lunch.

County High School of Technology (Vo-Tec) at 7:00 AM.
Meeting Time and Location: Meet at State Game Land 181 (Off Blain Road) at 7:30 AM. Hike to start at Apollo Park (Boyd Road) at 8:00 AM. Please let us know where you are meeting so we can get an accurate count for the shuttle drivers. We will need multiple drivers.

SUNDAY, APRIL 26: SHORT HIKE (3-4 MILES) Richard Nixon County Park: Spring has sprung, the grass has riz and the birds can finally fend for themselves. As I've done in the past this will be a hike at a blistering pace. I will try to make this interesting, no neighborhoods. So come out for the usual adventure. Hopefully the office will be open so we can see what our tax money paid for.

at 1:30 PM.
