A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

SUNDAY, MAY 1 SHORT HIKE (4 MILES): This will be a hike at Muddy Run Park, there are beautiful views of the reservoir and the surrounding areas. Hopefully, we may see deer and of course the ever-present Canada geese and if we are lucky other critters.
There may be muddy areas and other obstacles so wear good boots and bring a snack. As an added attraction bring a scraper to rid us of the lantern fly.

SUNDAY, MAY 8 SHORT HIKE (4 MILES): Join me for a leisurely hike along the shores of Lake Williams. The Lake has taken on a new look this spring which you should find interesting. 

Meeting Location: Lake Williams parking area, In Jacobus turn onto     Meeting Time: 1:30 PM
Water Street and go down the hill. Turn right into parking area.              Park near the rest room.

SUNDAY, MAY 15 MEDIUM HIKE (7 – 8 MILES): Sunset Rocks = Medium lollipop hike about 7-8 miles starting at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, following the AT to Toms Shelter (will have short snack break here) and returning via Sunset Rocks Trail. There will be some rock scrambling, views, and rocky steep hills. We may spot timber rattlesnakes! This is a moderate hike.
Hiking boots are best, poles, water, snacks. Afterwards, plan to join former hike members Pat and Neal (visiting from Colorado) for a picnic and to reminisce! Must RSVP by Thursday 5/12 for picnic to Kim Herbst at 717-887-4462 or so she can coordinate food dishes. Location of picnic will be a surprise for those who attend! York Hike Club members who do not wish to hike but want to visit with Pat and Neal, may meet at Pine Grove around 1 PM. Reminder! You will still need to RSVP for picnic.

SUNDAY, MAY 22 SHORT HIKE (3 MILES): Hike from Shanks Mere to Hooper farm. The 3-mile hike includes Devils Hole and Native Lands. One stream crossing. 

Meeting Location: Parking lot across from Shanks Mere (Long Level) Departure Time: 2:00 PM

SUNDAY, MAY 29 SHORT HIKE (4 MILES): A leisurely out and back hike on the Heritage Rail Trail. We will walk out about 2 miles, and then return, 4 miles total. No hills up, no hills down, no water to cross, no hidden stones to trip over! Enjoy the scenery as we head south on the Heritage Rail Trail, passing beautiful countryside views.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

 

Experience Codorus Outdoors (ECO): The York Hiking club will be participating in the Experience Codorus Outdoor event on Friday, June 17 (4 PM – 9 PM), through Saturday, June 18 (10 AM -9 PM). The Friends of Codorus State Park sponsor the event. The club could use people to host a York Hiking Club table on Friday and Saturday. The Friends of Codorus also wanted to know if the club had any members that would want to host a session on backpacking, camping, or hiking. Please contact Alan Noble (717-758-8470 or amnoble@live.com) if interested in hosting a table or putting on a presentation. 

 

Board Member and Officer Openings: The club still needs volunteers for the Secretary, which one of three officers for the club, and the Activities Chair. These roles are critical to the ongoing operation of the club. For more information contact Alan Noble, President, or Kathy Miller Yost, Treasurer.

 

2022 Hike Leaders Wanted: Please contact Alan Noble (717-758-8470 or amnoble@live.com) if you would like to start leading hikes for the club. We can partner new hike leaders with experienced hike leaders.

 

May 21: The A.T. Museum will host a special event on Saturday, May 21, at Pine Grove Furnace State Park---time and exact location to be determined. Event is a special presentation and book signing by Heather Anderson, who holds many records for hiking AT, PCT, and CDT as well as mountaineering across the US and abroad. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/article/heather-anderson-hiker for National Geographic article about her hiking achievements. Further information about this event will be posted on the A.T. Museum website: www.atmuseum.org

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
