MARCH 4, FRIDAY: COVERED DISH AND PROGRAM: Come join us for a social evening starting with a covered dish supper and proceeding to a presentation by Joseph Neville from the Keystone Trail Association. We will meet at York Township Recreation Building at 6:30-8:30 PM. Bring a dish to share. Having your own place setting is appreciated, but paper goods will be available. Contact Alan Noble (717-817-9430 or for more information and directions. 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.

MARCH 6, SUNDAY CHILI HIKE - MEDIUM HIKE: At 10 a.m. Alan Noble will lead a 5-6 mile hike starting from JPJ, returning in time for a chili dinner at 1:30 p.m. Call Julie Falsetti at (717) 854-3437, or email by 9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4 to make meal reservations which once made must be paid. Meal cost is $4 plus $1 cabin use fee for members and $2.00 for non-members.

MARCH 13, DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

MARCH 13, SUNDAY-SHORT/MEDIUM HIKE: We will be hiking for 6.4 miles on the Mason-Dixon Trail in Maryland from Broad Creek to US Rte. 1. There are several ups and downs and a few rocky areas. We will meet 9:00 am at the Conowingo Visitors Center, 4948 Conowingo Rd (US Rte. 1), Dublin, MD. Bring water, snacks/lunch and hiking shoes. Contact Tim Schmidt, 717-235-5940, for more information.

MARCH 13, SUNDAY, Long Hike: Approximately 10-12 miles along the trails of The Park at Governor Dick, in Mt. Gretna, PA. This will be a loop hike. We will meander along several of the park’s eighteen trails, most of which are rated as easy to moderate (but with a couple of nice climbs we’ll be sure to hit). There is a tower at the top that we can climb for a 360 view and a small environmental center with bathrooms. Bring boots, lunch, and plenty of water. We will leave the parking area next to Boscov's East Parking at 8:00am. Carpool fee $3.00. Hike Leader: David Lukes, 717-818-4751 or

March 19, SATURDAY JPJ WORK DAY: Come out and help get JPJ Cabin ready for summer fun activities! Jobs are available for everyone inside and out. We may be working on the spring again and cleaning up from the long winter outside. Wear old clothes and bring lunch. Meet at JPJ at 9:30 AM. Coffee and hot chocolate will be served with homemade banana nut bread! Hopefully the snow will be melted and the temperature will be well above 2 degrees by then. MARCH 20, SUNDAY MEDIUM HIKE: A 7-mile hike through Gifford Pinchot State Park starting at Squire Gratz Road and ending at Alpine Road. Bring hiking boots, lunch, water, and snacks. Meet at Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 10AM. Carpool fee is $3. Hike Leader is Alan Noble (717-817-9430 or ).

March 26 SATURDAY - BOUNDARY WORK. This is our spring boundary work day, weather and snow conditions permitting, on Peter's Mountain. Wear sturdy boots, long sleeve shirt, work gloves, and heavy pants. Bring lunch and water. This is trail maintenance at its finest, come and have a great day on the mountain. If you plan on attending, please contact Tom Morley at or 717-764-6822. We will meet at the Park & Ride parking lot at the Emigsville exit on I83 at 8:30am. It is on the east side of I83 and on the left side of Board Road.

Sawyer recertification class is being offered at Scott Farm on Friday, April 8. Anyone interested should contact Tom Morley at 717-764-6822 or tommorley@comcast.net

 

Backpacking Trips 2016. Anyone interested in backpacking in 2016 should let either Tom Morley, or Jim McCoy know. We plan trips every now and then and we would like to know of any members who might be interested. Women are encouraged to sign up, current female members backpacking are: Kim Herbst, Gwen Loose, Regina Markle, Elyshia Menkin, and Barb Culton. Any of these people can let you know how much fun we have.

 

If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike please contact the monthly chair person, a short hike is recommended.

Reminder to hike leaders - please submit your sign-up sheets to Phyllis Morley in a timely manner so that our guests get credit for their miles.

FEELING LEFT OUT???: Please don’t be bashful feel free to step forward anytime to lead a hike. Please don’t wait to be asked. Call the monthly chairperson or me Al Britton 717-741-0624 or . I will put you in touch with the right person. Not sure you know what to do or you would like some one to go over the hike with you, well call me, I’ll be glad to help. No experience is necessary, just a desire to get involved. The hike can be of any length.

WANTED: Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays There is no need to wait for the weekend to get outside. Our Wednesday hikes were intended to bring out some of the old timers, which is still my goal; however, if you are willing to lead a hike of five to seven miles then do so as it is good to get outdoors midweek. Also, people willing to be hike leaders. If you know a hike, but are reluctant to step forward, please be assured that I will be glad to show you what is necessary to become a hike leader. No experience is necessary, just a desire to get involved. The hike can be of any length. I would be glad to go with you to scout out the hike. Give me a call or e mail me 717-741-0624 or

Please note: Our historian, John Seville, notes that the York County 
Heritage Trust has a sizable collection of York Hiking Club memorabilia in its library. However, the material dates only from the Club's Founding in 1932 to the early 1980s. For the past 30 years very little material has been added to our collection. We want to correct this omission; so John is asking members who have Club related items that might be suitable for inclusion in our archives to call him at 717-244-6769. Examples would be minutes of meetings, accounts of special events, photographs, newspaper articles, etc. We do not need any more copies of the annual log books.

Card Committee: Linda Bean has graciously agreed to be our “card committee” since Sally Zimmerer has moved from the area. If you know of someone with a serious illness, having surgery, etc., please notify Linda at .net or 764-1091 and she will send them a card.
