All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.

 

A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 5, 2025 Long Hike 8+miles, This hike will explore 3 Lancaster Conservancy Nature Preserves. We start at Clark Nature Preserve on Ralph Goodno Loop trail (labeled strenuous) plus side trails Big Oak and Brubaker Run trails. Then hike on to Tucquan Glen and Pyfer Nature Preserves along Conestoga and Pyfer trails which makes a loop then return stopping at Lookouts River and House Rock Overlooks and return along Ralph Goodno Loop trail to parking lot. There are some rocky areas but mostly woods walking w/ small hills. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring plenty of water, lunch, snacks. Wear layers depending on weather, use poles if desired.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 12, 2025, P0RK AND SAUERKRAUT HIKE (5 miles) Bernie Frick will lead a hike at 10 AM over the wonderful local well-maintained trails near JPJ. Drena Kinghorn will be the chef for the Pork and Sauerkraut NEW YEARS MEAL. It will be served at 1:30 PM. Fee for the delicious meal will be $6.00 plus JPJ House fee of $1.00 for members and $2.00 for guests.

Hike Departure: 10 AM

SATURDAY, JANUARY 18, Medium Hike: 5-6 Miles: Hike at Rocky Ridge on trails to be determined. This will be an easy to moderate terrain hike. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, and snacks if desired.

Time: 9:00 a.m.
Meeting Place: Rocky Ridge back parking lot

SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, Short Hike (4.5 miles) let’s go just South of the Mason Dixon Line to near Parkton, MD. There we will hike on the Northern Central Railroad Trail called the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail. We will walk along beautiful icy Fourth Mine Branch of Little Falls Creek. I am hoping for a light covering of snow to accentuate the icy decorations. This is an in and out hike so those that want to go further may do so.

Meeting Location: York County High School of Technology (Vo-Tec) off Queen Street or at trail head 
Departure Time: 1 PM

2025 Hike Leaders Wanted: We would love to add some new members to our list of hike leaders for 2025. Please contact Allen Britton at you would like to start leading hikes for the club. Training will be provided. 

 

Help wanted: JPJ does not maintain itself, we need help in keeping the grounds neat and the inside clean. Please volunteer to help us.

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
