Inclement Weather: Please contact the hike leader or check our Facebook page for cancellation
information.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2: SHORT HIKE (3-4)miles) NIXON PARK: Well it's Groundhog day, so you never know what can happen. As usual this will be an excruciating pace along the usual trails, well maybe I can add something. The weather this time of year is unpredictable so come prepared. Remember my generation walked up hill in ten feet of snow in both directions.
Meet at the Lower parking lot at 2:00 P.M.
Hike Leaders: Allen and Lore Britton
or 717-825-5552
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9: CHILI HIKE/SHORT HIKE ( 6 miles) Kim Herbst will lead a hike starting from JPJ promptly at 10:00 AM on the well-maintained trails returning in time for a chili dinner at 1:30 p.m.
Call Bernie Frick at (717) 843-6675, or email by 9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6 to make meal reservations, which once made must be paid.
Meals cost $5.00 plus $1 cabin use fee for members and $2.00 for non-members.
Event Location: JPJ Cabin, 1145 Furnace Road, Airville, PA
Hike Departure: 10:00 AM, Meal Served: 1:30 PM
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14 COVERED DISH DINNER AND PROGRAM: Interested in Alaska - maybe thinking about a trip - been there and want to share experiences or just hear about ours? In 2024, seven of our Club members made three separate trips, each with a somewhat different focus. Join us on February 14 at York Township to hear the adventures.
Meeting location: the York Township Park Building at 25 Oak Street, Directions as follows: From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile. At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St. Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right. Drive straight ahead past the township building to the mall building in the middle of the field.
Time: Friday, February 14, 6:30 to 9PM.
Program will start about 7:10, if you prefer to skip the meal. Bring a dish to share if you want to participate in the meal. Please bring your own plates, flatware, cups, etc.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15: MEDIUM HIKE: (8 Miles): We’ll be hiking the perimeter at Rocky Ridge with options to shorten the mileage. This will be an easy to moderate terrain hike. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, and snacks if desired.
Meeting Place: Rocky Ridge first parking on the left near the bathrooms
Hike Departure: 9:00 a.m.
Hike Leader: Kim Herbst & Al Musser 717-887-4462, Email:
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23: Medium Hike. 7-mile loop trail. Easy to medium difficulty.
Loch Raven Reservoir: Glen Ellen Trail and vicinity (Baltimore)
The first part is along the reservoir with great views of it. Lots of water birds, even in winter. The second part is through open forest. The eastern extremity of the hike is up and down with moderate hills, but otherwise it’s relatively flat. There are very few rocks and the trail is fairly wide. Bring water and a snack. You will not need trekking poles but bring them if you love trekking poles . Good boots as always.. We will be finishing up a bit before 1:00, so let’s plan on having lunch at a local restaurant (at least those who carpool with me) - we can vote on the place.
Meet: 8:00 York
County High School of Technology (Vo-Tec) to carpool or at trailhead: 8:45. To meet at the trailhead, I recommend I-83 --> Timonium Road exit --> east on Timonium Rd to its terminus, a T-intersection --> turn right (south) on Delancy Rd --> turn right on Seminary Rd (There is a traffic light and you can’t miss it). Parking is on the shoulder immediately after the turn onto Seminary.
Call hike leader if you are meeting us there (717) 818-9461. Email:
or call with any questions, etc.
