SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1 - MEDIUM HIKE (6-7 MILES): We’re going to visit a rowboat on a mountaintop. We’ll also see a magnificent view of the Susquehanna River that many have never seen. We will begin with a stroll of the Fort Hunter Mansion and Park grounds, which features many historic buildings. From there we will carpool a short distance to Fort Hunter Conservancy, which has very limited parking. There will be a pretty good climb, some off trail hiking, roots and rocks, and magnificent views. Bring good boots/hiking shoes, water, lunch, and snacks. If you wish to meet closer to the hike location, please see the alternate meeting location. Following the hike, the Fort Hunter Mansion will be giving guided tours and will be decorated for Christmas. Admission is charged and details can be found on their website.

The hike will be about 8 -9 miles starting on the AT and then to Maryland Heights overlook - via the long route. This is a steep and strenuous climb, but folks can do less if they choose and explore the town. Those with a National Park pass should bring it along for parking. Bring boots, water, and lunch.

We will experience the Veterans Memorial Bridge from below, pass below Chickies Rock, cross a scenic bridge, and venture all the way to the Musselman-Vesta Iron Furnace Center in Marietta. After a break, we will return to the parking lot via the same route. The path is paved without inclines. Bring your holiday spirit, hiking boots, water, and snacks.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 28 – MEDIUM HIKE (7 MILES): We’ll keep the holiday spirit going just a little bit longer, with a hike into one of the great Christmas towns of PA. This will be a flat and easy hike along the Warwick to Ephrata Rail Trail and will end in Lititz, PA. They should still be decorated and we’ll time it to reach town later in the day for the full effect. We will make a stop at the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, where, for a small fee we can take a tour and twist our own pretzel. There are many other shops to visit, including the Wilbur Chocolate Retail Store. We’ll finish at Lititz Springs Park.
