SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1 – LONG HIKE (12 MILES): We will be hiking a section of the Mason-Dixon Trail, walking along the Susquehanna River from Apollo Park to just below Shank's Mare. Need water, lunch, good hiking shoes/boots, and BLAZE ORANGE hat/clothing.

Meeting Location: Boscov's East Parking at Galleria Mall across from Red Robin 

Departure Time: 8:00 AM

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8 – MEDIUM HIKE (8-9 MILES): It is Christmas time at Harpers Ferry, WV and the town is decorated! Also, the AT Headquarters will be serving holiday cookies and warm cider. The hike will be about 8 -9 miles starting on the AT and then to Maryland Heights overlook - via the long route. This is a steep and strenuous climb, but folks can do less if they choose and explore the town. Those with a National Park pass should bring it along for parking. Bring boots, water, and lunch. 

Meeting Location: West End Meeting Area, 1201 Woodberry Road parking @ RT 616 

Departure Time: 8:00 AM

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9 – MEDIUM HIKE (6-8 MILES): We’ll hike Rocky Ridge County Park, with an option to visit the Christmas Magic light show at the park. Tickets for this event are not part of the hike and must be purchased online ahead of time. The leader will be working the concession stand at 4:30, so this hike will be timed to end at that time, hence the range of mileage. We’ll keep mostly to the perimeter trail around the park. Bring snacks, water, and good hiking shoes/boots.

Meeting Location: Rocky Ridge County Park, first lot on the left near restrooms

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15 – SHORT HIKE (3 MILES): We’ll take an urban hike to see the many murals of York. The hike will start and finish at 150 Roosevelt Ave, York PA. People can park on the street for free on the weekends. We will see 18 murals and stop for lunch at Central Market on the corner of Beaver and Philadelphia. It’s an easy walk and those that don’t want to have lunch can just walk back to their vehicle on their own. If you wish to meet at 150 Roosevelt, the group should arrive about 10:15.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16 – LONG HIKE (12 MILES): We’ll hike a meandering path through Wissahickon Gorge, including parts of Forbidden Drive, the 2018 PA Trail of the Year. We’ll cross a covered bridge, visit the Cave of Kelpius, and see statues of Tedyuscung and William Penn. This will be about a 90 minute drive from York. Bring good hiking shoes/boots, snacks, lunch, and water. 

Meeting Location: Boscov's East Parking at Galleria Mall across from Red Robin 

Departure Time: 8:00 AM

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 23 – SHORT HIKE (4 MILES): The hike will begin and end at Breezyview Overlook, above the Susquehanna River near Columbia. We will hike over to Clayton B. Shank Trail and some of Chickies also. The hike will be an easy to medium level, and we will have to cross the road also. Bring good boots/hiking shoes, snacks, and water.

Meeting Location: Breezyview Gazebo, 770 Breezyview Drive, Columbia, PA 17512

Hike Leaders Wanted: We are so thankful for all of our hike leaders and were fortunate to add several new hike leaders this year. We are always in need of additional new hike leaders, so please consider leading a hike or two in 2019. Please contact David Lukes at if you would like to start leading hikes for the club. Training will be provided.

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
