All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.

 

A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

JANUARY 5: SUNDAY - PORK & SAUERKRAUT HIKE - Join us for the traditional Pork & Sauerkraut event at JPJ. There will be about a 6 mile circle hike from the cabin leaving promptly at 10:00 a.m. There is rugged terrain in this area, but the hike will be at a comfortable pace. Good boots & water and a positive outlook for the New Year are all that are required! Once again Diane McCoy will be preparing the meal. The meal will be served at 1:30 p.m. to hikers & non-hikers alike. Reservations are required & must be made by 8:00 p.m. Thursday Jan. 2, & once made, must be paid. Cost for the meal will tentatively be $4.00 and $1.00 cabin fee for members & $ 2.00 for non-members. Call Diane at (717) 852-7570 to reserve.

JANUARY 10: FRIDAY- COVERED DISH & PROGRAM – York Township Recreation Building at 6:30 to 8:30PM. Bring a dish to share. Having your own place setting is appreciated, but paper goods will be available. Beautiful photos of the latest trip to Maine by members will be featured with hiking on mountain peaks. Also, have you ever heard of Hog Island? Come and see our fine feathered friends that dwell on the wet, slippery rocks of the Atlantic.

 

Our place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.

JANUARY 12: SUNDAY - Long Hike: Approximately 9 to 10 miles in Michaux State Forest. On some of the AT, mostly on side trails and multi-use trails. Expect the usual hills and dales. Refreshments after the hike at Creekside Cottage. Bring boots, lunch and water. Meet at Adams Electric at 8 AM. Carpool fee $5. Hike Leader - Pat Yale 717-495-2839,

JANUARY 12: Short Hike - Meet at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church Parking lot at 925 South George Street in York. This hike will be mostly on pavement. We will head across York College Campus along the creek and then beyond and back. This hike will be about 4 to 4.5 miles. Good exercise to warm us all up. JANUARY 19: SUNDAY- Short Hike – 4 to 5 miles or so. Meet at Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 1 PM. We are agoin’ down on the farm, somewheres, who knows where? Like Airville maybe. Carpool fee $2. Hike leader: Eddie Johnson at (717) 862-3741 

JANUARY 24: FRIDAY - Trail Committee Meeting will be held at the Hooper farm at 7:15 PM. We will discuss the trail tasks and issues for the year. All members are invited to attend. Contact Jim Hooper at (717) 252-3784 or .

JANUARY 26, SUNDAY – Long Hike - Loop hike of 11 miles on unmarked trails in PA’s Michaux State Forest starting from Mont Alto State Park with climbs of 700', 600' and a few shorter ones; also 3 stream crossing and some muddy areas. The hike visits the Narrows, Eagle Rock, White Rocks, Brown Rocks and the Meeting of the Pines, landmarks on PATC Map 4. Meet at Adams Electric at 8 am. Bring boots, lunch, water and dress for the weather. Carpool Fee: $5.00. Leader: Tim Schmidt, 717-235-5940,

JANUARY 26: Short Hike – Meet at the Rail Trail at Brillhart Station parking lot on Day’s Mill Road. No official hike leader this time. Find your YHC friends at the picnic bench by the parking lot at 1:30 PM. Hike south through the tunnel and back for a 4 to 5 mile hike. Any questions call Sarah the day before at 741-2652.

JANUARY 28: Tuesday - Board of Directors Meeting will be held at 7 PM at the home of Sarah and Lou Tateosian, 209 Reynolds Mill Road. Phone (717)741-2652.

 

Card Committee: Linda Bean has graciously agreed to be our “card committee” since Sally Zimmerer has moved from the area. If you know of someone with a serious illness, having surgery, etc., please notify Linda at .net or 764-1091 and she will send them a card.

 

FEELING LEFT OUT???: Please don’t be bashful feel free to step forward anytime to lead a hike. Please don’t wait to be asked. Call the monthly chairperson or me Al Britton 717-741-0624 or . I will put you in touch with the right person. Not sure you know what to do or you would like some one to go over the hike with you, well call me, I’ll be glad to help. No experience is necessary, just a desire to get involved. The hike can be of any length.
