All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.

December 1, SUNDAY: Medium Hike - Torrey C. Brown (formally NCR) rail trail 7 mile hike. This is a point to point hike starting in White Hall and ending in Monkton, MD. Elevation is mostly downhill so it should be an easy hike. Bring good walking shoes, water, lunch, and a snack. Meeting place is the South parking lot (Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology)) at 8:00 AM. Car Pool Fee is $6.00. This hike will require a minimum of 2 cars and possibly more depending on the size of the hiking group. The hike leader will request for volunteer(s) to help drive. Parking is limited at both White Hall and Monkton, MD and people attending the hike will need to car pool. Hike Leader: Alan Noble (717) 817-9430 or

December 7, SATURDAY: Christmas at historic Harpers Ferry! Seven miles hiking thru town on the A.T. and to the scenic view at Maryland Heights. This is a strenuous hike, but you may just do the town portion of 3-4 miles and enjoy HF. Shops are open until 9 PM. The AT museum is open until 5 PM serving hot cider and cookies. I would like to have dinner in a local establishment in HF and be present when the town is lit up at dusk. Meet Adams Electric at 8 AM. Bring boots, lunch, water, snacks, and dress for the weather. If you do not want to stay for dinner, think about car pooling with others who are not staying. Car pool fee: $8.00. Hike leader: Kim Shue. Contact me at (717) 688-5142 if you have questions.


December 8, SUNDAY: Medium Hike - Approximately 7-8 mile hike around Lake Williams. The hike will start at the parking lot on S. George St. across from the Lake Redman dam breast and will be of moderate difficulty, but not technical with a few large hills. We will meet at York County School of Technology at 8:30 a.m. and the hike will start by 9:00 a.m. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes and bring water, lunch/snacks. December 15, SUNDAY: Medium Hike followed by a pre-holiday social at JPJ Cabin. Approximately 8 -mile hike reversing Section 1 of the Super Hike. We will hike on the Mason Dixon trail, beginning at State Game Land 181 parking lot, visiting Urey Overlook & ending at JPJ Cabin. Trail consists of a short road walk, logging trail, two stream crossings, a steep uphill switchback climb and some minor ascents and descents. Afterwards, enjoy wine-tasting, appetizers, and a warm fire at JPJ cabin. Hike leader: Tom Morley, (717) 764-6822 or . Any questions regarding wine social call Gwen Loose, (717) 891-9967. Carpool options: Meet at York Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) or Boscov's East Parking area, York Galleria Mall near Texas Road House at 9:00. Carpool Fee: $2.00. Hikers can also meet at 1st parking lot on the left below JPJ cabin at 9:45. Hike: Bring boots, water, lunch, and dress for weather. JPJ social: Optional to bring 1 bottle of wine or non-alcoholic ‘wine’ and an appetizer for tasting.

December 21, SATURDAY: Medium Hike - Shuttle Hike: Apollo Park to Shank’s Mare - 9 miles- We will begin the hike in Apollo Park and follow the Mason-Dixon Trail up river. This should be a good workout to help burn off those Christmas cookies. Bring good boots, lunch, and plenty of water. Meet at the Boscov's East Parking lot across from the Texas Roadhouse to leave at 8:00 AM. Carpool fee $5.00. Contact Todd Trimmer at (717) 818-9355 or

December 22, SUNDAY: Short Hike - Approximately 5-6 mile loop hike in the Accomack area hiking along a section of the Susquehanna River. Hike will consist of paved and dirt roads with one short hill. Meet at the Boscov's East Parking lot across from the Texas Roadhouse to leave at 1:00 PM or John Wright parking lot at 1:15 PM. Carpool fee $1.00. Hike Leader: Kim Herbst (717) 887-4462 or .

December 29, SUNDAY: Short Hike - Approximately 5 miles around Rocky Ridge Park. Meet at the first parking lot on the left at Rocky Ridge at 1:30. Bring water and snack, if you wish. Wear good walking shoes or hiking boots. Hike Leaders: Jerry and Chris Broome (717) 757-6357.


Announcements: 

Jim Crooks, York, PA 17402 and Yudi Watkins 2855 Gora Road, York, Pa 17404 have met their 30 miles and have been invited to join the club. 

We welcome two new hikers Barbara Culton, York, PA 17406 and Vanessa Xiao, York, PA 17407 to the club.

 

Card Committee: Linda Bean has graciously agreed to be our “card committee” since Sally Zimmerer has moved from the area. If you know of someone with a serious illness, having surgery, etc., please notify Linda at .net or 764-1091 and she will send them a card.

 

FEELING LEFT OUT???: Please don’t be bashful feel free to step forward anytime to lead a hike. Please don’t wait to be asked. Call the monthly chairperson or me Al Britton 717-741-0624 or . I will put you in touch with the right person. Not sure you know what to do or you would like some one to go over the hike with you, well call me, I’ll be glad to help. No experience is necessary, just a desire to get involved. The hike can be of any length.

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
